Help for the Joker Chat
This is an easy to use chat client, with many features, which can improve the discussions, or make it more friendly.
On the first page, you'll need to
provide a "nickname", which can be your full name or only your
first name or a completely different name. Choose a
wisely name, do not confuse the other people with strange
names noone can understand or noone will know who it
is.
There are restrictions in the nickname you choose. You can only use alphabetical characters (small and capital), numbers, underline "_" and some other
characters. You cannot use a name that already exists. After you found one, type it in the text field, and press the enter key, or press the button "let me in".
Now, you'll have the main (chat):
Now, let's start with the controls, and features:
- The top line tells you which room you are in. The first is the name of the room begginig with a # mark. It's joker by default. Everyone who is using this chat is directed immediately here. The second number is the actual chatters in this room. This number changes when someone joins the party or leaves it. And the last part of it is the topic. Anyone can change this by typing the /topic something command in to the
input field (nr. 8). It's practical to keep the current subject of the discussion in the topic, or something with a relevant meaning to the people in the room (for example someone's birthday).
- This is a normal line sent by someone. The first part <Suzy> is the nickname of the person who sent the line (of course the brackets isn't a part of it
). After it follows the message sent to everyone.
- There is an option to express your
mood via "smiles". If you want to say a funny thing, you can put a smiley on the end of the row, to let the others know, you aren't serious or you think it's funny what you are going to say. There is the list of the available smiles (move your mouse pointer over the images, to get the character you need to type in order to display the smiley):
- You can perform (virtual) actions by typing the /me some sort of action command
in to the input field (nr 8). This is very similar to the
normal message taht you can send, but in this case the
message sent with this command appears differently as you can see in the picture. In this case, by typing /me the nickname between brackets is changed into just the name of the one sending the message.
- If someone left the room a message appears describing this action. You can see only the nickname of the person who left the room. You can do this in many ways: Simply closing the window ; Clicking on the Sign off button11 or typing the /quit quit message command in to the input field8.
- You'll see this message if someone
joins the room. After the asterisks you can see the nickname of the person who joined the room. Followed by it's host (host is the address of the person on the internet). After this the person who joined can see every message and from all person who were already in the room. He/she will not see anything from the chatsession that was typed before he/she joined the session.
- You have the option to send messages in a different color than black. After or before you typed the message in the input field8, then you can chose a color by clicking the proper color , or turn the bold style on or off by clicking the small B on the control toolbar9. After you
sent the message the color and font turns back to normal.
- This is the input field. You'll need to type every message or command here. After you typed in a message, or command, you'll need to press the enter key. After you pressed the enter key, the message immediately shows up for the other participants.
- The color toolbar. This is used to give some sort of style for you messages. Read number 7 if you are want to know more about it.
- Here you can see the other participants from the chatsession. If you double-click on a name a small window appears, and you can chat only with him/her privately.
- With this button you can interrupt the connection to the others. After you clicked on it, the name of the button is changes to Connect, and pressing that button
you can join again to the others.
With this program you don't have the
option to save the contents of the discussion, but all chatsessions are logged by date by Harras. If you still need it, send a mail to gergoe@harras.be
with the exact date, when the discussion was and we'll send you the content of the discussion.
That's all, If
you have any problem or question, feel free to send a mail to gergoe@harras.be.
